An exhibition on RainGain at Cité Descartes, Paris Region

by École des Ponts ParisTech

The date of the installation of the weather X-band radars in Paris and Rotterdam is approaching.

Since the 24th of April, École des Ponts ParisTech is hosting an exhibition to present the installation project to the students and employees that work in the bulding nearby the future radar site at Cité Descartes.

The radar of the École des Ponts ParisTech will provide fine-scale rainfall observations and better forecasts of the urban floods in the East of Paris Region.

RainGain aims to test the benefits of recent x-band radars in urban water management : from prevention of risks for people and infrastructures to pollution reduction.

X-band radars in Paris, Rotterdam and Leuven will estimate precipitation at a finer scale and with minor costs than conventional weather radar (C-band or S-band). High-resolution rainfall observations  will improve forecasting of heavy rainfall and run-off modelling in the city.
