RainGain researcher's technical workshop

During this workshop RainGain researchers will analyse the features (sewer network, distribution of impervious areas) of various catchments of the RainGain pilot sites with fractal tools (a tutorial will be implemented). The objective will be to test how this tools help to interpret the results of the comparison of the simulated flow. Rain gauges networks will possibly be analysed. Lastly, progress and plans with regards to WP1 (validation), WP2 and WP3 tasks and papers will also be discussed.

8:45 - 9:15: Welcome coffee (room P 211)

09:15 - 10:15: Heterogeneity and multifractal in environment

10:15 - 12:30: Tutorial on computing and interpreting fractal dimensions in urban environment

Aim: to characterise the features of your catchment with the help of fractal tools, e.g.:

sewer networks
impervious areas
rain gauge networks
topography

12:30 - 14:00 Lunch and coffee break

14:00 - 15:30: Discussion on the use of (multi-) fractal tools to:

validate radar data
compare rain gauge adjustment and merging
proceed to morphological field comparison
multifractal analysis of the simulated flow - preliminary results

15:30- 17:00: Discussion on planned papers

storm selection
conduit selection based on the morning’s results
transfer function at different point of the catchments

17:00 - 18:00: Wrap-up
